Tips & Tricks #6

Anders Norling has become a bit of a dishwasher expert during his years at Wexiödisk…in this interview, we ask his advice on deciding which dishwasher to invest in with larger kitchens.

Washing heavy dishes is both a strenuous and time-consuming job. Many restaurants soak canteens and pots and leave them in the sink for several hours or even overnight before they can be cleaned again. This is not efficient or hygienic. With the help of a pot dishwasher, the handling of these pots is considerably simplified.

Wexiödisk manufactures several different models of pot dishwashers and I would say that the type of machine an operator invest in will depend on the type of kitchen they have. In modern commercial kitchens, there is certainly a need for a granule pot dishwasher and in a smaller restaurant, a smaller machine, a so-called. combi dishwasher, can be a better choice.

How many potwasher models do Wexiödisk have in their range and what are the differences?

Currently Wexiödisk manufactures six different types of pot dishwashers. The smallest, which we also count as a hoodtype dishwasher, is called WD-7 and has a changeover lever for increasing water pressure. This is our simplest model and is suitable for a smaller restaurant or as a complement to a larger one. In this machine you can also wash normal dishes such as plates and glasses. The same goes for our WD-8 model which allows for residue to be cleaned easily thanks to increased water pressures. Our WD-8 model is slightly wider than the WD-7 , hence why we often recommend this model to bakeries that need to clean baking trays etc.

The next size is the WD-12 which has a dual capacity compared to a WD-7 or WD-8. This combi dishwasher is without question my favorite model as it is easy to handle, robust and fast. Plus, two baskets can be washed at the same time with differing water pressures. This means that you can wash plates (normal wash) in one basket and heavier goods (pot wash) in the other. There is also the possibility to equip the WD-12 with a foldable shelf which proves ideal for canteens, trays or pots.

The WD-90 DUO is one of our newest machines in the potwash family. It has as many as 9 programs, washes with or without granules, is easily placed in a corner and with the right benches and accessories, provides perfect logistics in small washing areas. With features such as hood automatic and pass-through model, the WD-90 DUO is an ergonomic hit. Operators can avoid heavy lifting with this model in addition to creating a clean and a dirty side in the washroom. This machine also has dual functions, ie it washes your dishes but also your glasses. Hence the name DUO.

Our WD-90GR - model is available in two versions: Flex and HC (High Capacity) and is best suited to venues with larger wash requirement. The HC model is best equipped for washing canteens whilst our Flex model is best suited for washing mixed goods. Both of these models can wash with or without granules.  When washing with granules, the WD-90GR rotating basket feature truly comes into its own, allowing water and granules to reach all areas of goods for excellent wash results. This machine is also flexible and space saving and has 6 different program choices depending on your goods.

What are granules and how do they work?

Granule technology is superb if used correctly! With granules, heavily soiled canteens and pots do not need to be scrubbed or soaked, instead time and effort can be put into other tasks in the kitchen. We have produced a "handbook for granules" for operators who work with our machines or who are considering getting a pot dishwasher with granules. You can order it here.

What are the different accessories available, and how do I order them?

There are many different accessories for washing different utensils in the kitchen; examples of which can be found with our product sheet. To find out more on the different accessories available, operators can look under each product's product sheet or they can email me at email me for further help. Operators can then order these accessories through their local dealer, which you can find here.
